Walwal na dis
MANILA, Philippines – #GGSS, #THESTRUGGLEISREAL, and #WALWAL sound like occasional trending topics on Twitter but at the #YSPROM slumber party, they’re responsible for getting the partygoers happy and on the dance floor. We loved them so much we headed over to EDSA Beverage Design Studio and had a chat with Trissy Perfecto to find out how they did it.
For the EDSA Beverage Design Group, every drink is a character in itself with a story behind it. They came up with two sodas for the event: #GGSS (Gandang Ganda Sa Sarili) and #OTP (One True Pairing). #GGSS is a fruity and sour soda while #OTP is more lively and "out there" taste-wise.
“It’s something Katy Perry would love,” says Trissy.
Perfect for: Sitting back and relaxing while re-watching Parent Trap for the nth time.
Pair it with: A tub of salty popcorn is your best bet. You can skip the candy because the sodas are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
#WALWAL and #WalangTulugan sound like the kinds of drinks you would arm yourself with if you’re planning to stay up all night. True enough, #Walwal is a coconut water-based drink that’s refreshing and light (think piña colada but less creamy) while #WalangTulugan is patterned after slumber party staples: rootbeer and coke.
Perfect for: All-night gabfests in your pyjamas and when you get tipsy enough, dancing along to Carly’s new album.
Pair it with: French fries and pizza to share with your squad.
If you’re after a much heavier fare, #TheStruggleIsReal or #DaddyIssues would be your poison of choice. The names themselves are dead giveaways. #TheStruggleIsReal is tequila reposado with a shot of Dark Matter Theory (espresso), sweet vermouth, and Campari. Don’t let the yummy coffee taste fool you because it gets pretty, well, real. #DaddyIssues is more towards the dry side. Scotch-based with orange, thyme, and fizz, if this doesn’t bring out your issues (Daddy-related or otherwise), then nothing will.
Perfect for: Hugot-laden talks and heart-to-heart discussions.
Pair it with: A greasy burger, you know, for when you’re eating your feelings.
The #YSProm is over but you could still head on over to EDSA BDG and ask for the Long Tory from their Better Common line if you’re craving #DaddyIssues or #stillhurting if #TheStruggleIsReal is more your thing. The best part is these hand-crafted cocktails are bottled so you can buy a few and stick them in the fridge while waiting for your guests to arrive. They come at P300 per bottle.
Meanwhile, their COO bottled sodas are great by themselves or you can go dirty and mix them up with your favorite liquor. If you're feeling #GGSS, grab yourself a bottle of PCR and if you're looking for your #OTP, then Sangria Passion is for you. They retail for P180 a bottle.
If you’re planning your own slumber party and want to bring out your inner bartender, Trissy recommends you give the Dark and Stormy a try. “You can drink it as is or have it with a regular meal.”
A Dark and stormy is pretty easy to make: Fill a glass with ice, pour two ounces of dark rum and top with ginger beer. Garnish with a lime wedge, if you're feeling fancy, and serve with your favorite comfort food.
Cheers!
